BTO-22 Specification — What it Means
BTO-22
Barbed Tape Obstacle — the international NATO/military standard for concertina coil razor wire. BTO-22 is the most common industrial grade.
Coil Diameter
Available in 450mm, 600mm, 700mm, 900mm expanded diameter. Larger diameter = harder to breach, more visible deterrent.
Blade Material
High-tensile galvanised steel blades — razor-sharp on all edges. Will not corrode or blunt for 10+ years.
Core Wire
High-tensile GI core wire with full zinc galvanising. Provides structural strength for the coil under tension.
Barb Spacing
Barbs spaced at 22mm apart (hence BTO-22). Closer barb spacing = higher deterrence and entanglement risk.
Expanded Length
Each 10m coil expands to cover 10 metres of perimeter. Coils are clipped together for continuous coverage.
Types of Concertina / Razor Wire Systems
Single coil concertina
One coil placed on wall top or ground — economical perimeter deterrent for standard industrial boundary
Double coil concertina
Two stacked or side-by-side coils — used for higher-security boundaries, harder to breach
Cross-pattern (3-coil pyramid)
Two coils on base, one on top — maximum security, used for military, prison, and high-risk perimeters
Flat wrap razor wire
Razor blades fixed to flat wire in strip format — ideal for wall-top installation on narrow compound walls
Y-post concertina system
Concertina coil mounted on Y-angle posts extending out from wall top — difficult to bypass even with tools
